It was a genius move to put these two smoldering Latin (well, Puerto Rican and half-Ecuadorian) crooners together in what has become my favorite duet ever. This salsa-tinged remix of a match made in ballad heaven has distilled a forlorn Valentine’s Day into aural form. Ricky and Christina’s voices play off each other perfectly and melt into audio nirvana when they combine on the chorus. The yearning of lyrics such as “My body’s longing to hold you, so bad it hurts inside” and “I wanna feel you need me, just like the air you’re breathing” are made much more salient and believable when these two beautiful souls plead (“Why don’t you let me love you?”) and beckon (“Can you hear my voice, do you hear my song? It’s a serenade, so your heart can find me, ohh”) to each other. I’m not usually one to really get into love songs but Nobody Wants To Be Lonely makes me swoon every time.
